The existing deck was too cramped for entertaining, and a small awning provided inadequate coverage from the elements. The family needed a significantly larger outdoor space with a permanent, full-coverage shelter so they could comfortably cook, relax, and host gatherings even during rainstorms.
The Weekend Carpenter expanded the outdoor living area by extending the deck an additional eight feet and constructing a custom three-season roof structure. Supported by heavy-duty Bigfoot footings and triple LVL beams, the frame features hand-cut rafters lined with 1×6 tongue-and-groove boards for a stunning exposed ceiling, finished with matching exterior shingles, integrated lighting, and audio speakers—creating a durable, spacious retreat built for year-round enjoyment.
