You have high expectations and we plan to exceed them

The Weekend Carpenter was established in 1994, by owner operator Richard Hrynkiw.

The fundamental concept is that Richard uses the homeowners as part of the project. He calls this the sweat-equity program! By using the help and active participation of the homeowner, this helps the homeowner feel part of the experience but also helps in keeping costs down or in reducing the overall project cost!

Richard can enjoy homeowner participation, but if not possible, additional help can be brought to bear. Working with Richard is no ordinary experience, he will work with you to help decide the most appropriate products and fit for your budget.

You have your “honey do lists” that never get done. The Weekend Carpenter is there for you. You will watch that list disappear as each small project is completed. You will be surprised what can get done in a day, when you are focused.

Richard has been completing small projects from fences, to decks to small home renovation projects. His work generally takes no longer than 1 to 3 days. Over the last 23 years he has gained a wide range of skills and experience. Richard works with homeowners to ensure the experience and work is satisfactory to both parties.

One of the biggest concerns for every homeowners is cost overruns. Nobody wants to agree to a price, and then learn that it will be significantly more partway through the project. Not more because you asked for something different, more because the contractor didn’t foresee it, and got the job based on a price that didn’t include something you thought was covered.

As with any project, scope management is the key, with is based on open and clear communication. That is another reason to work with The Weekend Carpenter. The ability to see the project evolve as you execute it is amazing. But it also allows you to better understand why a change in the middle of a project could set the entire project back, both in schedule and in budget. Communicate, communicate and communicate some more.

Helen’s Big Renovation

When I bought my 25 year old townhouse it had the original fixtures, ceramics, cupboards, and mismatched wooden floors – in other words needed a complete refurbishing and updating. Richard promised to have it refurbished in 6 weeks. He planned, designed, found reliable contractors, supervised and installed himself the kitchen cupboards, sinks, bathroom vanities, and electrical fixtures. I was overwhelmed by the change in the place that I would call home. Richard is true to his word and very professional. A weekend carpenter that I highly recommend.

A New Fireplace

A Deck Roof

I needed a roof on my deck ASAP. Richard drew up the plans, ordered the material, built, shingled and put up siding in a weekend. I helped by moving lumber and taking orders. I’m not Ms Fix-It but it was a learning experience to work on a project that I now enjoy every day. He was fast, efficient and definitely great on my budget. I highly recommend Richard.

About The Weekend Carpenter

F150 and Wood

The Weekend Carpenter was established in 1994, is owned and operated by Richard Hrynkiw. The fundamental concept that Richard uses is what he refers to as his sweat equity program. The home owners become part of the project. This not only allows the home owner to feel a part of the work but also helps in keeping costs down. He can also complete the work on his own if that is the choice for the homeowner. Working with Richard is no ordinary experience; he will work with you to choose the most appropriate products that fit your budget.

Richard has been completing small projects from fences, decks and small home renovation projects. His projects are generally no longer than 1 to 3 days. Over the last 23 years he has gained a wide range of skills and experience. Richard works with homeowners to ensure the experience and work is satisfactory to both parties. He has helped well over 45 families see their projects finally finished.

Richard is married and has a busy house filled with dogs, a cat, and a lovely daughter. When he’s not working on client projects, Richard is renovating the family home from a tiny, dated 2 bedroom house to a light-filled, open-concept dream home. He also enjoys racing go-karts, training the newest member of the pack (Koda) and cheering at his daughter’s swim meets.
